General Shutdown Update
Fellow Spirit ALPA Pilots,
It will be one week tomorrow since our airline ceased operations and our careers at Spirit Airlines abruptly ended. Over the past week, all of us have been moving through the grieving and healing process while also working to find answers to the many outstanding questions that remain as Spirit continues through the wind-down process.
Spirit Airlines Master Executive Council Custodians
ALPA has appointed Ryan Muller, along with Sean Creed, Andy Nelson, and Doug Erickson, as custodians of the MEC. We will continue serving as your representatives as we fulfill the duties and obligations associated with closing out the MEC and supporting our pilots through this transition.
MEC Office and Phone
The MEC office is now closed. Please do not visit the office or call the office phone number, as it is no longer monitored. Please continue utilizing the DART system or email for support and communication.
DART System
The DART system remains active; however, there has been a significant change to the available categories. There are now four active DART categories:
- Crew Pay
- Retirement & Insurance
- Grievance
- Contact the MEC
Please continue utilizing the DART system for questions and support. Additionally, we encourage all pilots to continue reviewing the information available on both the Company shutdown website and the MEC shutdown website.
Pay Status Update
Your custodian team met with Company representatives this week to discuss the status of our final paycheck. While several issues remain outstanding, the Company representatives confirmed that there will be a final paycheck issued. They were not able to confirm the date of this check, but said it should include:
- The April pay reconciliation
- Compensation for “work performed” on May 1 and May 2
We are continuing to work with the Company to determine the timing of that payment, the details related to pay for May 1 and 2, and the process for resolving any discrepancies. At this time, the Crew Pay team has only been retained through May 31, 2026. We hope to have additional answers regarding timing and unresolved pay questions next week.
UKG Access
Pilots experiencing issues accessing UKG following separation from the Company should use the instructions below.

Points of Contact
As part of Spirit’s wind-down plan, there are now just over 100 employees remaining with the Company. As a result, points of contact for various issues are continuing to evolve. Below are the current known points of contact. We have also attached a DOT Drug and Alcohol Records Check document provided to us by the Company. We will continue updating this information through future communications and an expanded FAQ document.
Soft-landing Opportunities
For the latest list of soft-landing opportunities, including preferential hiring agreements to affected Spirit pilots, go to spa.alpa.org/shutdown > soft-landing opportunities, which is updated as new opportunities become available.
Captain Jason Ambrosi Honors Spirit Pilots
In his message following this week's Executive Board meeting, ALPA President Capt. Jason Ambrosi honored the Spirit pilot group's 30-year legacy and recognized the leaders who carried them through it. Read the full message and watch the tribute video below.
We know everyone is moving through this process differently and at different stages of grief, uncertainty, and career transition. Please continue supporting one another and make use of the resources available on the shutdown website at spa.alpa.org/shutdown.
In Unity,
SPA MEC Custodian Team
