Custodian Update
Fellow Spirit ALPA Pilots,
This week the Custodian Team does not have a large amount of news to share. However, we will provide updates on what we know concerning several hot topics. The first being the payments to our LGA/EWR pilots under NJ WARN and the second being the 401(k) plan.
NJ WARN
As referenced in last week’s communication, 183 of our pilots were issued severance payments from Spirit Airlines due under the New Jersey WARN act. Numerous pilots sent DARTs to the Custodian Team regarding the amount of that payment. After reviewing the law and what was paid to this group of pilots, the subject matter experts at ALPA determined that an underpayment occurred for some pilots.
The Custodian Team brought this to the attention of Spirit Airlines. They have acknowledged the mistake and have informed us that they plan to make it right. The Custodian Team does not have the data to determine exactly what each pilot is owed under the law and currently does not have additional information concerning the timing of these corrective payments. At this time, there is no need to send DARTs with what you believe is the amount owed.
Only pilots who were based in LGA/EWR on May 2, 2026, the date of the shutdown, are eligible for these payments.
401(k)
Approximately 600 pilots are awaiting final termination of their 401(k) plan. The Custodian Team continues to press for additional information, and we continue to stay in contact with Schwab on this issue; however, we have not received any new information.
Please continue to check your own accounts and contact Schwab directly with questions regarding the plan termination. The HR@spirit.com email address is still being monitored to the best of our knowledge.
UKG
Other than the instructions to attempt a UKG password reset shared in previous Custodian Updates, the Custodian Team has no ability to assist with UKG issues or facilitate a password reset. HR@spirit.com is the only way to attempt to regain access.
